• Notes

  The first child born in what is now Union township, was Lena, daughter of Darius and Lucretia Gardner, whose natal day was July 28, 1857. There are, at the present writing, seven good school houses in the township, all in good repair, and some 220 scholars enrolled in the schools. The present roster of teachers who preside over their destinies, is as follows : Misses Lena Gardner, Ida Sherman, Cora Gillott, Belle Sherman and Clara Foster, Messrs. Henry Gardner, Mervin Parker and -J. W. Foster. She was living with her brother's family during the 1900, 1910 & 1930 Census (ADV 10/2/2009).
